We had a fantastic session with our speaker Suzanne-Parete Koon, filled with open conversations and insightful sharing. The discussion introduced concepts like open-door and closed-door communication and delved into key drivers of innovation and identity. We explored who we turn to for support—peers, influencers, family, or friends—especially during challenging times.
The session aimed to foster a sense of belonging in our workplaces and schools while strengthening our identity within scientific and technical fields. We also discussed what motivates career persistence and brainstormed ways to build a supportive community that enhances both personal resilience and institutional success. Research highlights how these factors impact student retention in their majors and career longevity in technical fields.
